Day 1- Meet at arranged location at Miami Airport/Ft Lauderdale at a time to be determined. Depart to Havana for the 45 minute flight. Meet guides at airport and drive to house we are renting. Get a bike ride into downtown, eat dinner then ride back to house. We usually take a cab to the Hotel National for an evening drink.
Day 2- Breakfast at house and then off to Hemingway Marina. We will go to all the architectural wonders around Havana and there is a lot of stop and go riding this day. After lunch, we will continue our ride around the city. That evening we will go to the Piano Bar on a rooftop for a sunset drink then take a cab to a place called the "Factory" which is a social club with bands, art displays, bars, cafe, performances and so much more. Again, this is a very full day.
Day 3- Breakfast and then we do a thorough ride into downtown. Visit markets and our guides will have panniers to carry purchased items. There is a lot of side streets we will go into downtown and will have to walk some of the narrow streets. There are a lot of bars too to visit on this day if you want to sample some of the local drinks. If the group prefers, we can do a long ride to the beach instead. This day ends with a dinner downtown then a walk to the Buena Vista Social Club.
Day 4- Breakfast and we do the Hemingway Ride. This ride can be from 32 to 38 miles depending on time and group. We will ride to the Hemingway House which is up a gradual climb into the hillside. On the return, we will have lunch at a fishing village Hemingway frequented in Cojimar. At the end of the day, we will take our host family to a local cuban restaruant with live music. From there, a short walk to the nostalgic Yellow Submarine Club for a celebration.
Day 5- Open morning to do as you please before we head to the airport.
*Note- This is Cuba and their since of timing is not the same as ours. You have to be flexible and open to change regarding schedules and times. Please do not schedule your flights to and from Miami on the same days of the Havana flights. Delays are common.
Cycling attire- we suggest you wear more casual cycling clothes since we will be going into places to eat and buildings. Formal cycling clothing sticks out. Look at some of the photos to get an idea of what to wear.
We provide flat pedals on the bikes due to all the stop and go riding. However, 2 of the days you could clip in if you like due to the distance. So if you want to bring your bike shoes and pedals, we would be happy to add to our bikes. We provide Jamis Satellite and Ventura Road Bikes.
